OLA Update #13 / 20th October, 2021


CENTRAL ZONE 

October 16th, 2021 

  • Ada Barga district, West Shawa – A regime military convoy traveling from Mugar to Ela was engaged resulting in 4 vehicles being destroyed, 32 enemy combatants being killed, and 28 being injured.

SOUTHEAST ZONE

October 13th, 2021 

  • Munesa district, East Arsi – An OLA commando unit took action on a regime military patrol resulting in several enemy combatants being killed and 10 being injured.

SOUTHERN ZONE

October 14th, 2021 

Rifles captured in Bule Hora
  • Bule Hora district, Guji – Regime military units attempting to patrol Bule Hora were engaged in Eba Lati resulting in 23 enemy combatants being killed and 28 being injured. 2 enemy combatants were also captured attempting to escape. 12 AKM rifles were captured as a result of this engagement.

October 17th, 2021

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – OLA forces engaged with a regime military convoy in Ada Iresa and resulted in 14 enemy combatants being killed and 18 being injured. From the 18 injured that were sent to Nagele Borana Hospital, 7 were transferred to Hawassa Hospital due to the extent of their injuries.

October 18th, 2021

  • Saba Boru district, Guji – OLA forces engaged regime military units in Sire Buqi and Utulu resulting in 22 enemy combatants being killed and 25 being injured. 8 AKM rifles, 14 explosives and other various military supplies were captured. A convoy of regime military units attempting to come as reinforcements were engaged in Ada Dareersa resulting in 14 enemy combatants being killed and 16 being injured.

CENTRAL ZONE 

September 21st, 2021

  • Kuyu district, North Shawa – OLA forces took action on a regime military forces in Danisa town capturing 4 rifles and briefly occupying the town.

October 5th, 2021

  • Dagam district, North Shawa – OLA forces took action on Abiy regime forces in Yaya Haro resulting in 27 enemy combatants being put of action and 40 being injured.

SOUTHERN ZONE

October 1st, 2021 

  • Liban district, Guji – OLA forces took action on a regime military patrol in Siminto resulting in 8 enemy combatants being killed and 5 being injured.

October 2nd, 2021

  • Saba Boru district, Guji – OLA forces took action on regime military patrols in Bupo and Utulu resulting in 10 enemy combatants being killed and 7 being injured. Several weapons were also captured.
  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – An Abiy regime special forces unit was neutralized by the OLA resulting in 2 enemy combatants being killed and several injured.

October 3rd, 2021

  • Liban district, Guji – An Abiy regime military patrol attempting to leave Mugayo town was destroyed resulting in 3 enemy combatants being killed and 8 being injured.

October 4th, 2021

  • Nagele Borana town, Guji – An Abiy regime military patrol was destroyed by OLA forces in Adda Kella Finfinee resulting in 5 enemy combatants being killed and 7 being injured.
  • Bule Hora district, Guji – OLA forces took action on regime troops resulting in 10 enemy combatants being killed and 7 being injured.

October 5th, 2021

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – Regime security forces attempting an offensive into OLA-administered areas were completely routed resulting in 130 enemy combatants being killed and over 200 being injured.
  • Liban district, Guji – Heavy fighting in Mugayo resulted in OLA forces killing 70 enemy combatants and injuring over 83. Several high-ranking regime military officers were killed in the fighting.
  • Saba Boru district, Guji – In continuing fighting in this district, OLA forces in Utulu and Bupo killed 21 enemy combatants and injured 16. Following this, the regime military completely withdrew from Utulu.
  • Goro Dola district, Guji – In heavy fighting in Adaadi, OLA forces killed 42 enemy combatants and injured 37.

October 6th, 2021

  • Liban district, Guji – OLA forces took action on an Abiy regime military patrol resulting in 6 enemy combatants being killed and 8 being injured.

October 7th, 2021

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – Heavy fighting in an area called Tutufe resulted in 55 enemy combatants being killed and 97 being injured.

October 8th, 2021

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – A final offensive on regime military positions resulted in 230 enemy combatants being killed and 340 being injured. The regime military completely withdrew to Nagele Borana.

CENTRAL ZONE (OPERATION TADESSE BIRRU)

September 20th, 2021 

  • Kuyu district, North Shawa – Engagements between the OLA and Abiy regime forces that began on September 20th, in Uyyo Cabare and Akale are still ongoing. At this point, 72 enemy combatants have been killed, over 60 have been injured, and several dozen have been captured. Several items of weaponry including 35 AKM rifles along with ammunition have also been captured.

SOUTHERN ZONE (OPERATION ELEMO QILTU)

September 12th, 2021 

  • Goro Dola district, Guji – OLA forces took action on a regime military patrol in Haraqalo town resulting in over 16 enemy combatants being killed and 3 being injured.

September 14th, 2021

  • Dugda Dawa district, Guji – OLA forces took action on regime forces in Dogo and Ulo Doya, resulting in 21 enemy combatants being killed and 16 being injured. Several items of weaponry were captured as well.

September 16th, 2021

  • Liban district, Guji – OLA forces took action on a regime military camp in Mugayo resulting in 18 enemy combatants being killed and 27 injured. The ranking officer of the camp was also injured in the attack and died later at Nagele Borana Hospital.

CENTRAL ZONE (OPERATION TADESSE BIRRU)

September 19th, 2021 

  • Warra Jarso district, North Shawa – In Warra Jarso, the OLA engaged Abiy regime forces resulting in 45 enemy combatants being killed, 13 being injured, and 5 being captured. Several items of weaponry were captured as well.
  • Fajji district, North Shawa – The OLA took action on Abiy regime forces in Cirecha Balia resulting in 4 enemy combatants being killed and 6 being injured.

SOUTHEAST ZONE (OPERATION NADHII GAMADA)

September 3rd, 2021 

  • Miesso distrct, West Hararghe – An Oromo Liberation Army commando unit ambush left 3 enemy combatants killed and 2 injured. 5 AKM rifles were also captured.

September 7th, 2021

  • Miesso district, West Hararghe – An Oromo Liberation Army commando unit launched an attack on an enemy encampment in an area called Jima Jarso. The attack resulted in 9 enemy combatants being killed and 10 being injured.

SOUTHERN ZONE (OPERATION ELEMO QILTU)

September 4th, 2021 

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – The OLA’s Soddom Borro brigade took action on Ethiopian military forces attempting to establish a bridgehead in Gumi-Eldalo. The attack resulted in 12 enemy combatants being killed and 8 being injured.

September 7th, 2021

  • Gumi-Eldalo district, Guji – A convoy of 5 vehicles carrying Ethiopian security forces in a place caled Irresa Liban Buri was attacked by the OLA’s Soddom Borro brigade resulting in 16 enemy combatants being killed and 21 being injured. Another convoy attempting to bring reinforcements was stopped in Kara Walenso resulting in 8 enemy combatants being killed and 11 being injured.

WESTERN ZONE (OPERATION LAGASSE WOGI)

September 3rd, 2021

  • Sasiga district, East Walaga – Following the capture of this district by OLA forces on August 31st, 2021, several waves of Ethiopian security forces deployed from Naqamte have been successfully repulsed. The towns of Sasiga, Bali, Bareda, and Gaba Sambata are firmly under OLA administration. The total number of political prisoners released has reached 150.

September 4th, 2021

  • Shambu district, Horo Guduru– The OLA’s Odaa Buluq brigade attacked a military camp and killed over 49 enemy combatants.
  • September 5th, 2021

    • Begi town, West Walaga – An operation by OLA forces resulted in the compelete routing of Abiy regime forces with over 130 enemy combatants being killed and many more injured. There was also a capture of large stocks of weaponary consisting primarily of AKMs.

    September 9th, 2021

    • Shambu district, Horo Guduru – The OLA’s Odaa Buluq brigade is in ongoing engagements with Ethiopian security forces at a place called Laku, located 10km from Shambu. Over 20 enemy combatants were killed on the first day of fighting.

    CENTRAL ZONE (OPERATION TADESSE BIRRU)

    September 7th, 2021 

    • Kuyu district, North Shawa – An engagement between the OLA and Abiy regime forces at a place called Qare Ta’a resulted in 25 enemy combatants being killed and more than 13 being injured.

    OLA Update #8 / 2nd September, 2021

    Following significant progress by the Oromo Liberation Army, the Abiy regime has began amassing troops in Nekemte (East Walaga) and Shashamane (West Arsi) in preparation of a counteroffensive.

    OPERATION LAGASSE WOGI (WALAGA)

    OLA forces return an ambulance that security forces tried to use to escape Sasiga
    • Sasiga district, East Walaga
      • On the morning of 31st August, 2021, the OLA launched a morning attack on the Sasiga District Police station.
      • After several hours of fighting, the Abiy regime’s forces fled the area alongside several government officials; including the town mayor Geneti Taye and security bureau head Deselegn Ebiyo. Over 100 political prisoners were released from the jail and public consultation sessions were held in various towns and villages in the district.
      • 3 pick-up trucks that attempted to bring in reinforcements for Abiy’s forces were completely neutralized in Owwataa before reaching Sasiga. Another group of reinforcements arriving from Angar Gute was neutralized in Afata (Mandara 6) before reaching Sasiga.
      • At 2pm, Abiy’s forces in nearby Uke began to forcefully comandeer private vehicles to collect the wounded and dead . Eventually, 2 pickup trucks and 3 ambulances arrived from Nekemte to pick up the remaining wounded and dead enemy combatants.
      • At 4:30pm, 3 pickup trucks and 1 Ural truck of Abiy’s forces attempted to launch an offensive on OLA positions but were completely neutralized in Mandara 3.

    • Northern East Walaga
      The main contingent of the Amhara militia that recently crossed into Oromia in an attempt to commit ethnic cleansing was driven out of towns and into the forests around the Blue Nile valley.

    OPERATION ELEMO QILTU (GUJI, BORANA)

    • Wadara district, Guji
      On 31st August, 2021, the OLA’s Laga Dambii brigade and Odaa Adola brigade repelled an attempted counteroffensive by Abiy’s forces. The fighting began at 8am at Heba Hida and continued until the evening. More than 10 enemy combatants were killed and over 21 were injured.

    OPERATION TADESSE BIRRU (SHAWA)

    • Mida Qanyi district, West Shawa
      A two day engagement with Abiy’s forces (September 1st to September 2nd) resulted in over 80 enemy combatants being killed and over 50 being wounded. Large numbers of weapons were also captured

    OPERATION ELEMO QILTU (GUJI, BORANA)

    • Districts under OLA control:

        • Liban district – After significant engagements in Bulbul, Dhaka Qalati, Mugayo, Boba, and Siminto, 16 out of 18 towns in this district are currently under OLA administration. There are ongoing OLA operations in Nagele Borana with strategic points currently under OLA control. OLA forces continue to man checkpoints on various sections of the Finfinee-Moyale highway.

    • Wadara district, Guji – the Cibraa Oda Adola brigade has launched a new offensive on government forces in this district and has succeeded in cutting them off from the road leading northwest to Sidama state.

    OPERATION LAGASSE WOGI (WALAGA)

    • Chilimo Forest, West Shawa – A series of attacks on government military patrols resulted in a complete withdrawal of government forces in the area. 
    • Abay Chomen district, Horo Guduru – The OLA has captured the Fincha’aa Sugar Factory and the surrounding area after days of heavy fighting. 
    • East Walaga –  After the neutralization of a military camp in Wayu Tuka district and the mass defection of hundreds of Oromia Special Forces into the ranks of the OLA, there has been a deployment of combined units of Amhara regional state militias and the federal military in Uke Karsa. The OLA has engaged in several clashes with these government forces which have been responding to by killing random civilians in Uke-Karsa. In Agamsa, Haro, and Sire Doro, Amhara militias have burned over 100 civilian homes and killed innocent. At this stage, the northern part of East Walaga remains firmly under OLA control. 

    OPERATION NADHI GAMADA (BALE, ARSI)

    • Hebano, Kokosa district, West Arsi – An OLA Commando unit destroyed a government military patrol to which government forces responded by harassing civilians and burning their homes down.

    REVISION: We made two corrections:

    • Regarding the presence of combined Amhara regional state militias and federal military units, they were only deployed in Uke Karsa and its vicinity. In Kiremu and Amuru, there were only Amhara militias and no federal military units.
    • Regarding the burning of civilian homes, this is occuring in Agamsa, Haro, and Sire Doro, not in Uke Karsa.

    The OLA has taken control of the Gimbi-Najjo road, the Gimbi-Dembidollo road, the Nekemte-Bahir Dar road, and the Gidami-Assosa road.

    August 8th, 2021

      The Oromo Liberation Army has captured Haroji town after overruning the Ethiopian military camp in the area.

      The Oromo Liberation Army has captured Kalala town.

    SOUTHERN ZONE

    Qallacha Hache, Bule Hora district
    Malka Guba military camp captured
    • Bule Hora district, West Gujji
      All of Bule Hora district with the exception of Bule Hora town has been captured by the OLA after a week of heavy fighting.
    • Gumi-Eldalo district, Gujji 
      After over a month of fighting, the Oromo Liberation Army has captured the Ethiopian military camp located in Malka Guba.
    • Liban district, Gujji
      On August 7th, 2021, the Oromo Liberation Army surrounded an Ethiopian military camp located in Dhaka Qalati and launched several attacks. Fighting is ongoing.
    • Madda Walabu district, Bale
      Several attacks on Ethiopian security forces by OLA commando units have resulted in 56 enemy combatants being killed in the last two weeks.

    CENTRAL ZONE

    • North Shawa
      The Oromo Liberation Army has launched a major offensive in North Shawa and captured the main road running through North Shawa to Amhara state.

      – On August 7th, 2021, the Oromo Liberation Army overran and took an Ethiopian military camp located in Yaya Haro (Dagam).

      – On August 7th, 2021, the OLA captured the towns of Ali Doro and Ula Ummo (Elamu) in Kuyu.

      – An attempted counteroffensive by Ethiopian security forces in the afternoon of August 7th, 2021, was routed resulting in over 100 enemy combatants being killed. Several vehicles and rifles were also captured.

      – Ethiopian security forces attempting to rally in Wara Jarso were forced to retreat with over 50 AKM rifles being captured in the battle.

    WESTERN ZONE

    • Limmu Galila district, East Walaga
      The Oromo Liberation Army has captured Limmu Galila district.
    • Nunu Kumba district, East Walaga
      The majority of Nunu Kumba district has been captured by the Oromo Liberation Army after heavy fighting with Ethiopian security forces in Hora Bacha and Birinqas.
    • Yamalogi Walal district, Kelem Walaga
      An attempted offensive by Ethiopian security forces was routed resulting in several dozen enemy combatants being killed.
    • Gidami district, Kelem Walaga
      Following a 3 hour offensive, the Oromo Liberation Army has captured the following:

      – The Ethiopian military camp in Buri (near Gidami town)
      – The Ethiopian military camp next to the Gidami town administration office.
      – The Ethiopian military camp located in “China Camp” (within Gidami town)

    WESTERN ZONE

    There have been several clashes between the OLA and Ethiopian security forces between July 6th and July 14th throughout the Western Zone. 136 enemy combatants have been killed, over 200 have been injured, and 17 have been captured (including 2 lieutenants).

    July 13th, 2021 

    • Gimbi, West Walaga
      Various units of the Oromo Liberation Army launched an operation in Gimbi that resulted in 32 enemy combatants being killed, 21 being injured and 1 being captured (see video below). 7 AKM rifles were also captured. Among the enemy casualties were Colonel Diriba Chala and platoon commander Ejigu. This operation was a joint effort by the OLA’s Gaara Abbaa Seenaa regiment alongside the Bitinessa Dina, Mancasa Gabruma, and Wirtu Gadaa commando units.

    CENTRAL ZONE

    July 8th, 2021 

    • Dirre Inchini town, West Shawa
      Ethiopian security forces encamped near Dirre Inchini were repulsed by the Oromo Liberation Army after attempting to enter the town. Following this engagement, the town administration fled the area.

    SOUTHERN ZONE

    July 14th, 2021 

    • Gumi-Eldalo district, Gujji
      The Cibra Soddom Borro brigade of the Oromo Liberation Army has continued to surround the Ethiopian military camp located at Malka Guba. At around 8am, the brigade launched an attack that resulted in 40 enemy combatants being killed.
